School Prom Tour 2013

2013 was a big year for school events and proms for Pryme Tyme Entertainment.

We kicked things off at Mercy High School in Middletown for 350 students in their gym. According to Vice Principal Virginia Sullivan, This was one of the largest attendances they had seen in years for school dances. “Typically the students leave about half way through the night but tonight, you had them dancing all the way to the end. The students that had requested to leave early initially never left.”
A big thank you to Ann Drewry and Mercy High School for choosing us for their dances this past year.

 

Next it was on to La Bella Vista in Waterbury for Westover School’s Prom 2013. This multi-cultural, all girls, private boarding school enjoyed an eclectic mix of music for their prom. Our recently upgraded COLORWASH light show stole the show and added excitement to the dance floor.

May 17th, 2013 was our largest school event this year when we entertained over 350 students for East Haven High School‘s 2013 Prom at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. The theme for this prom was go big or go home.

 

With our Mobile Club Package boasting a 10,000 watt sound system and fully automated intelligent light show as well as our Funtastic Photo Booths, the majestic beauty of Kays Pier South was transformed into something reminiscent of a concert.

The music selection for the evening was a mixture of hip hop and todays top 40 favorites seamlessly mixed to create a continuous high energy soundtrack for the evening’s festivities.

June 7th and 8th are our next dates for our School Tour 2013. June 7th, we’ll be at the Grand Oak Villa in Watertown for W.F. Kaynor Technical School’s Prom and on June 8th at the Toyota Oakdale Theater in Wallingford for our final prom of the season with Daniel Hand High School.

5 Things that Every Bride Books but noone remembers.

So, you’ve just got engaged and immediately start planning out in your head of what your perfect wedding would be like. You drive quickly to the supermarket to grab several bridal magazines and begin calling friends to ask them to be a part of your bridal party. In the magazines, you see pictures of beautiful dresses, regal looking venues, and an ambiance fit for royalty. This is your wedding. It’s all about you. There are so many choices that you really would love to have them all but, your budget quickly dwindles to pennies and you haven’t even chosen your DJ, Photographer, or Videographer yet.

You’ve never planned a wedding before. So how do you know what services and options to book for your wedding? Here are the 5 things that EVERY bride books but noone remembers.

1. The Chocolate Fountain.

Who doesn’t like chocolate? People in formal attire. This sticky sweet treat is a great addition to sweet 16’s and house parties but for weddings, it’s a costly addition and very messy.

2. The overdone tables, centerpieces, & upholstered chairs with matching bows.

Choosing the right decor is a difficult task. There are so many choices. Pick one. After the 4 ft centerpieces, pleated luxurious fabric table and chair covers with matching bows, and enough candles to stay warm on a cold winters night. Where will you eat your dinner? This is one of the most common conundrums of wedding planning. Remember, sometimes less is more.

3. The abomidable cheese display.

It’s not secret. Cheese is just about everyone’s favorite food. Most people like what they like and are less likely to try an artisan cheese that only Andrew Zimmer from Bizarre Foods would try. If you’re going to have this option, keep it simple. You’ll get what you pay for and your guests will enjoy their favorite cheeses.

4. Parting gifts.

How tasty was that trendy baggie of cookies you got at the last wedding you attended? I bet they’re still in your car’s backseat cup holder waiting to be eaten for when you’re stranded in traffic.
It’s normal to send your guests home with something as a thank you for being a part of your special day. They’ve already enjoyed a meal fit for a king, the open bar, and a night out. Now I’m not saying to be cheap but, think about it. Cookies, candles, fridge magnets, and nippers typically end up in the kitchen junk drawer. Be practical.

5. Last but not least is the disposable camera.

In the interest of being budget friendly, we’ve left the duty of getting quality wedding photography to your wedding guests. We’ve all seen them. The picture with the finger half over the lense, the over exposed group shot that turns even the most tanned guests into albinos. You get the idea.

By being smart with your wedding budget, you can all that you want and none of what you don’t.

Interesting phone call tonight with a potential couple for this summer.

When Matt was looking for a DJ, he had thought that DJs were all created equal. When I had said, “You’re getting so much more than just a couple hours of music. Everything from start to finish, from introductions right up until the last dance of the evening is taken care of your emcee. I will coordinate with your matre’d to make sure that your dinner arrives when it should. That your dances, speeches, and formalities go smoothly and on time to allow you the time to enjoy your special day. Matt, I want you guys to be able to enjoy each other, your friends, and your family. My job is to see to it that it happens.”

Dumbfounded, he thought I was reading from a script. He did in fact ask me, “So, have you practiced that line? Sounds like you’ve got that routine down pat.”

To which I replied, “No Matt, that’s just me and what I think a wedding should be. A celebration of 2 lives, 2 hearts, 2 families coming together. That can’t be scripted. You have to experience it…”

Whoever said “Pain is beauty” has an interesting sense of humor.

The topic of wedding fashion is at times the pinnacle thought on brides’ minds because they want to look perfect. Right down to the shoes on her feet. So why is a DJ company writing about what shoes to wear?

DJs know alot about footwear. Think about it, We stand in the same place for 5 hours at a time typically on a concrete poured, wood, or tiled floor entertaining you and your guests. After loading in, setting up, performing the celebration and then breaking down, our feet take a beating. So do a brides.

Wedding Fashion dictates that those three inch stilettos are to die for and would look perfect but, how would wearing them for 12 hours straight work out? From the time you put on your dress that morning you’ll be on your feet and in constant motion. Standing at your ceremony for an hour or better, posing for pictures, greeting guests at every table, and last but not least, dancing. With all of that time on your feet, you’re going to need to be comfortable. You’re paying good money for your wedding entertainment and you want to dance the night away. You might as well be comfortable doing it.

So when picking your kicks for the day of your nuptuals, consider bringing a couple pair with you. A nice dressy set for the ceremony and pictures, then maybe flats or even a flip flop for your reception. Your dress will cover them. Noone will know but you, and your feet.

Remember, happy feet make for a happy reception.

It’s hard to fight back the excitement when the man or woman of your dreams asks your hand in marriage. You immediately start thinking about your dress on how it will look on you, the floral arrangements, and all of the wedding planning details great and small that you’ve been dreaming of since you were a little girl.

You’ve got a date in mind. Maybe it’s a year or two away. In your mind you’re thinking, “There’s so much to do! I better get started.” Your instinct is wise beyond comprehension. The people who tell you, “Meh, you’ve got time. Why worry about it now?” have either never planned a wedding or did it last minute. However, the brides that plan their weddings far in advance typically get everything they want and more!

But what if I’m on a budget? No problem. Think about it for a second. The more time you have to plan means the more time you have to save for the things most important to you. The venue should be the first thing you and your fiance check out.

The best wedding venues are usually booked up first so getting that taken care of before all else is essential. Go to many venues. See all there is available to you and then comfortably make your decision based on your venue. By doing this, you won’t have the stress of rushing everything and settling for less than a perfect venue. If you want your wedding at the most beautiful place in your area and not at the local VFW, you need to get out there before the next bride does..

Next, choose your wedding entertainment. Whether it’s a DJ or a band, these are the second to be booked quickly. The best DJs have a reputation for quality and tons of referrals so booking them early is important. By the same token, DON’T RUSH YOUR DECISION! Next to having a place for your reception, the entertainment is the second most valuable investment in your special day. From the ceremony to the last dance, your DJ serves as your wedding director, master of ceremonies, and your mouthpiece to deal with other wedding vendors to coordinate and execute all of the events of your reception. With that said, just like the venue, the first brides get what they want. The ones who wait leave a lot to chance and will more than likely have to settle for what ever is left.

Next, your photographer, videographer, and extras should be next.

As the old saying goes, “The early bird gets the worm.” There’s a lot of truth to that statement, So follow your gut, and plan early. It’ll be the best decision you make for your special day.

I often get asked at a meeting, what kind or style of DJ are you?

If you watch TV or surf YouTube long enough, you’ll see there are so many different types. The most notable DJs are not the ones that you see at a wedding. The tiestos, skrillexs, oakenfolds, and benassis of the world sell out arenas while playing techno & electronica.
The Funkmaster Flexs, the DJ Jazzy Jeffs, and Biz Markies of the world, you might find in a NYC hip hop spot or on the radio. And DJ Pauly D from the Jersey Shore… well you get the idea.

Those are just a few examples of different ‘style’ djs. But what about you? What about your wedding, school dance, or corporate event? What should you expect?

A mobile dj is just that.. Mobile. He travels from event to event specializing in many different musical tastes and styles and in order to make your event a success, he must be a master music programmer. He has to know what will make your 88 year old grand mother cut a rug and what will make your 16 year old cousin drop it low. He has to know where each song fits and in what order to keep your party going all night long.

Engagement & Bridal show season is upon us and both brides and wedding vendors are getting ready for wedding season. So, this usually leads to the question, “Who do I choose?”

With so many options available for venues, djs, videographers, photo booths, photographers, etc… the list goes on and on. But how SHOULD you choose your wedding DJ? Let me show you how.

If you visit google and do a search for wedding djs in your area, you’ll notice a plethora of results. Hundreds and hundreds of DJs who are waiting for you to pick up the phone. You’ll see wedding specific websites, club style, and from the extravagant to the bargain basement DJ. With so many options, it’s difficult to know which one to choose. Or is it?

Think about this for a second. Your wedding reception is going to be one of the most memorable moments of your life. You want the best. Keep this in mind, what may be the best for one bride may be totally different from what you had in mind. Ask yourself, what is important to you? Who can you trust to make this reception go flawlessly?

You want experience, professionalism, class, sophistication, fun, and something that fits your budget. You want someone who will make it their mission to see that your special day is perfect. Someone who will work with the venue and other wedding vendors to make sure that the timeline transitions will be smooth. Someone who will engage your guests and keep the energy positive and the dance floor filled regardless of what age your guests are.

All of the things that I just mentioned are believe it or not a rare find. That’s why it is SO important for you to research your wedding DJ before the big day. Meet with them at an initial consultation to see what their all about. If the DJ automatically starts spewing off how much equipment they have and telling you that he does 400 weddings a year, prepare to hear a used car salesman pitch. However, if he’s laid back, cool and confident and asks YOU what you are looking for, he’s interested in how he can make your wedding reception a success.

Also, be wary of the lowest bidder. It’s tempting to go for the best deal like that shirt you found on sale on the clearance rack for just $5 that was $30 just 2 weeks ago.Keep in mind, there’s a reason why it was on the clearance rack. Noone wanted it. It’s a leftover. The same can be said for your wedding entertainment. The DJs who put a vested interest in your day will not be the least expensive option. They may also not be the most expensive either.

The most important factor of finding the right DJ for your wedding reception is that they are a good fit for you and your guests. More than the cheese tray, the colored bows on every chair back,  and the hot rolls served before dinner, your guests will remember if they enjoyed themselves and were entertained the most.

Your wedding reception will run an average of 5 hours, make them count. You get ONE opportunity to have the time of your life. Investing in your entertainment is what makes your special day a success.

Whenever I meet with a newly engaged couple, I always give them the 4 tips for a successful wedding. Most couples only do this once in their life and don’t have the experience of planning a wedding from the bride and groom’s point of view.
So here we go!

Tip #1 – Eat your dinner


All too often, the bride and groom will spend most of dinner going from table to table greeting their guests and thanking them for attending their special day. Although you want your guests to know your appreciation for being a part of your wedding, they understand that this is your big day and they want you to enjoy. That being said, make sure you take time for yourself and get some nourishment. At $50-$100 a plate, you want to make sure that you get what you are paying for and be able to enjoy your reception by energizing yourself with food and drink.

Tip #2 – Have your cake and eat it too

The cutting of the wedding cake is not only ceremonious but for your enjoyment as well. The sugar boost you get right before you hit the dancefloor for the evening will leave you feeling perky and ready to party!

Tip #3 – Take off those shoes

After standing in heels for an hour at your ceremony, being posed for hundreds of pictures by your photographer, and with friends, your feet take a beating. Bring flip flops or flats for the reception. This way you will be able to relax and dance the night away comfortably. And speaking of dancing…

Tip #4 Dance like noone’s watching

This is the most important tip of all. This is your special day. It should be a fun and memorable experience. After all is said and done, most guests will not remember the cheese tray or the bows on the backs of the chairs but they will remember if they danced. And you will too! Throw caution to the wind and dance. Do your best Michael Jackson impression or play the air guitar for that band you always wanted to see growing up.

All in all, if you follow these 4 steps, you too can have a successful wedding celebration!

Burr Homestead Wedding – The wedding of Lauren & Jon

Last night was a wedding for the ages. The marriage of Lauren and Jon took place at the Historic Burr Homested in Fairfield, CT. Lauren, Jon an guests were from the greater NYC area. That being said, their expectation of what a wedding DJ from CT was probably a lot different than what you’d expect. The fancy tuxedo, the golden microphone, maybe some mexican party hats and a few blow up instruments. But on this night, the music took them on a journey through the 5 boroughs. From the sounds of Frank Sinatra and the rat pack at  Radio City Music Hall, to the hip hop capitol of the world, Brooklyn, NY.

After a two and a half hour cocktail hour and Mediterranean influenced smorgasbord of delectable food, guests also enjoyed a candy bar that would even leave WIlly Wonka himself in awe. Every tasty treat from childhood from cotton candy, candied and caramel apples and even a smores station were featured.

Once the guests had their fill of champagne and sugary confections, the estate turned full swing into a house party. This wealthy, white collar town was shaken to it’s core when the music started. After a 4 hour marathon of dancing and singing, it was time to bring this party to a close. The night ended with a hug and a smile from the newlyweds and it was time to head back to the office.
