Wedding Djs that won’t break the bank.

This has to be the most common thing we see on social media when couples are searching for a DJ or any wedding related service for that matter. The other common phrase when looking for wedding djs is, “reasonable” or “reasonably priced”. And for most wedding professionals, this is a red flag. The conversation has already ended before it has begun in the name of the lowest cost and the last thing a wedding vendor wants to do is to is engage in a bidding war with their fellow vendors.

Now while I know this sounds like we’re getting off on the wrong foot, let’s look at a few things.

The game has changed. Gone are the days of parents paying for their children’s nuptials. Couples are being smarter with their money, especially in times of post-covid inflation. As a result, priorities have changed when it comes to planning weddings. While some couples still enjoy the idea of a lavish affair with all of the frills, the majority of couples have really tightened their belts and invest in only what is most important to them.

The highest priority on the list in 2022, the food. When you go out to eat, you’ve probably noticed that the bill is in some cases 50 percent higher than it was 2 years ago. You might have also noticed that the financial gap between cooking at home and dining out has gotten smaller and smaller. Inflation affects everyone. And weddings are no exception. Because of the rise in prices of food and labor, many couples are shooting for better food. Farm to table options, high end Mediterranean cuisine, and more artisan style foods are outpacing the days of surf and turf and cheese plates. The current generation has more of an appreciation for quality over abundance. But, even with quality, value has to be a part of it.

Rising food and utility costs are always easier to explain than service-based inflation. It’s understandable that food costs are on the rise due to shortages in product and in many cases, labor. But when it comes to finding wedding djs that won’t break the bank, that’s a little tricker to come to terms with.

If you ask your parents (who I might assume are in their mid to late 60’s) how much their wedding dj cost in 1987, the might tell you that they paid $550 or on the high end, $1000. More than 30 years later in 2022, the average cost for a wedding DJ is $1700. How is this possible?

Just like everyone else, our costs have gone up significantly. The average cost of a truck to haul equipment is now $60,000. Our music subscriptions that used to be $30 per month are now $60. And we certainly can’t forget about insurance premiums and everyone’s favorite fossil fuel, gasoline. In addition to rising costs, supply and demand plays a big role as well.  The Covid-19 pandemic wiped out many companies and small businesses when they were forced to shut down. And when we were given the green light in May of 2021 to resume operations, the boom in bookings skyrocketed and our dates filled faster than ever before. What does this mean for couples looking for wedding djs? There are more weddings than there are qualified DJs to host them.

As of today, we’ve had over 36 inquiries for the first Saturday of October. There are over 300 listed DJ companies in CT but those 36 people all came here! One of the reasons is, we have a tried and true reputation of being awesome at what we do and the other is, there are more than 300 weddings happening in CT on that date. Our no-frills wedding package starts at $2200. According to many of the couples we meet, that price is average for what they have been experiencing when looking for quotes. It’s expected that there are some higher prices out there and some much lower prices out there. Like anything else, there’s certainly no lack in variety.
