The Last Minute Wedding

last minute wedding, branford house, groton

Just a few short weeks ago, I got a call from a groom from New Jersey. When he asked if I had the date 2 weeks after his phone call for his wedding, I was shook. This was a last minute wedding and the expectations were high.

My first thought was, “Oh man, I wonder if his DJ bailed on him and he’s scrambling?”
My second thought was, “Shoot, did he straight up forget to book a DJ for his wedding?”
After those thoughts swam through my head, I found out at the wedding from the other vendors that included 6 wedding photographers, a wedding planner, a caterer, a bartender, and me, the DJ, that the groom booked ALL of these vendors no sooner than 1 week before the wedding, However, he did book the venue 7 months earlier.

His logic, actually pretty smart. You see, wedding professionals much like hotels are in the business of selling time. For instance, Saturday is the most popular day to get married in the week with Friday being the second, and Sunday being the third. So in many cases, those days come at a premium. Weekdays however, are less than popular for weddings so that’s where the deals are. Pair that with the season you’re in and that can also affect the price.

Although this is very true for most wedding vendors, this particular groom was looking for a last minute opening on a Sunday from 2-6. He paid full price because I am the #1 DJ at Pryme Tyme and this was a last minute and required the same end result as if he had more time to plan. (It makes a huge difference)

I’m happy to report that their wedding was a success and turned out just the way he wanted.

Remember, if you’re looking for a guaranteed end result, you’re going to be paying not for 6 hours of time. But the knowledge and experience it takes to pull it off flawlessly.
